The Crittenden Regional Hospital Foundation announced it has purchased a new child vision testing system for the hospital from funds raised during the 2009 Annual Giving Campaign.
The Enfant® Pediatric VEP Vision Testing System is a child-friendly, noninvasive device used to test for visual defects in children 6 months of age and older. It checks for visual deficits, such as strabismus, amblyopia ("lazy eye"), optic nerve disorders and severe refractive errors. The test does not require dilation of the eyes or sedation, and is capable of evaluating the entire visual pathway. The good news is that if amblyopia is identified early, it is easily treated and corrected.
"Vision disorders are the 4th most common disability in US children, and we are excited that the Crittenden Regional Hospital Foundation Board of Directors recommended allocating grant dollars for this device," said Yaser Alsaek, M.D., pediatrician, Crittenden Regional Hospital Clinic Systems.
"I am proud that we are able to address this need for the children and families of our community, as the technology will help us detect vision problems earlier and more easily in our younger patients," states Chris Chastain, executive director Crittenden Regional Hospital Foundation
This year, the Foundation also purchased a new on-demand patient education system and portable Home Health testing equipment.
